My first introduction to magic was watching David Nixon do a trick with two matchboxes, eventually after a few weeks I had worked out how the trick was done. I preformed it at school and the reaction was excellent. From then on I spent a lot of time in Central library in Manchester looking through the Magic books. I could only afford a pack of cards so I spent many an hour learning manipulations, counts and flourishes. |

As a teenager I dropped magic as I had other interest. I was reunited with magic about 12 years ago when I was working at the church run youth club. We used to have an epilogue bit at the end and the kids just switched off. So I started to introduce the magic in to the epilogue, it certainly got the kids attention. So now I find myself predominantly involved with Gospel Magic. I also do some bits for Tricks for Truth. If I get any spare time I still like to stick my head in a good magic book, however the days of heading for the library are gone, I now have a collection of well over 500 books mostly from 1900-1940’s and around 2,000 periodicals. However I have only read about 90% of them. I have recently managed to get hold of a first edition of “The Secrets of Conjuring and Magic” by Robert Houdin so that’s next on my list. |
