Eric is the only puppet in this script all the other characters are real people.  This script is for presentation to very young children.

Eric is sitting on the floor with his bag next to him and his lunch box open

Narrator One day a man asked Jesus what he needed to do to get to Heaven and have eternal life. Jesus answered that he should do what the Law tells you to do. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind, AND love your neighbour as much as you love yourself. The man then asked “who is my neighbour?” To make him understand, Jesus told this parable. We have updated it and will show you a modern version of the story:
Narrator: Eric was minding his own business, eating his lunch, when two robbers came and attacked him, taking his bag and his lunch.
Enter Robber 1 and Robber 2 ,  they rob Eric and leave him lying on the ground.
Robber 1: Quick get his bag and I will, get his lunch.
Robber 2: Good idea, be quick before any one comes.
Robber 1 and Robber 2 leave with the stolen goods
Narrator:  Shortly after this happened a business man on his way to work came past.
Enter Businessman, with briefcase, talking on the cell phone
Businessman: "Hello, yes, I am on my way to the station now, I've got the documents they are in my briefcase; ok see you soon, bye.”

Puts the phone down.
“Oh look, he looks hurt and sad……. But I can’t stop not now I will be too late for the meeting, got to rush, some one else will sort him out.”
Exit businessman
Narrator:  He quickly left and didn’t stop to help Eric, did he?
Shame, poor Eric, what will he do?
Next a Royal person with lots of money came past.
Enter Royal person
Royal: Hello, hello everyone, lovely to see you, nice you could all come, oh look, there is strange person, what is he laying on the floor for?  He is probably taking a nap, yes, having a little sleep, looks a little dirty, well wouldn’t want to stop, might get my hands dirty or worse. Someone might steal something from me!!!  I must go now, nice to have seen you all bye.
Exit Royal person
Narrator: She quickly left and didn’t stop to help either, did she?
Shame, poor Eric, no one will help him.
Lastly a workman came past
.
Enter Workman
Workman: “Well I am running late again, Sam will be cross,( looking at Eric) Hey what is this? What has happened here?
Stoop down to talk to
Eric
.
Are you alright? is there anything I can do to help you? Shame, you look hurt, let me put a plaster on that knee of yours, it looks like you have been in the wars. What is your name? Eric oh, shame you look hungry, shame let me get you some lunch. My appointment will have to wait for a while. Making sure that you are alright is more important.”
Eric: Thanks.
Eric and workman get up to leave

Narrator: Which one took pity on Eric and was the most helpful and caring? The last person showed the most love, to a total stranger.
Jesus wanted to teach us that we must always be ready to help anybody who has need of us, even if he is not a friend, because this is what Jesus did, when, out of love he gave his own life for us.
