This puppet
theatre is possibly one of the easiest to make and is also very light
and easy to transport.
Magicians will be pleased to know that it packs flat! The puppet theatre can take two people kneeling or seated on low stools and is constructed from electricians 25mm plastic conduit. This conduit and the accessories that go with it are readily available from electrical wholesalers or D.I.Y. retail outlets. The theatre is covered with duvet covers but sheets could be substituted instead. |
| To make the theatre you will require 12 solid 25mm conduit plastic bends 12 25mm plastic conduit clips to make the hinges 12 lengths of 25mm plastic conduit Plastic conduit glue Electricians plastic insulation tape 2 duvet covers or sheets to cover the frame The theatre is made from three rectangles each the same size. Four lengths of conduit are required for each rectangle and four solid right angled bends. |

The
bends are shown white in the diagram for clarity. The conduit is
glued into the ends of the bends using the glue for plastic conduit.
The three rectangles are hinged together using hinges made of two conduit clips glued back to back in a figure of eight configuration. These are clipped onto the conduit and
then blue electricians tape has been wrapped round the hinge to give it
extra strength. |
| Three
hinges made in this fashion join the three panels. This allows the
theatre to be folded flat.
No sizes have been given for the panels. This will depend on the size of your puppeteers. Adult puppeteers will need the panels to be higher than children puppeteers. The plastic conduit glue actually melts the conduit into the bends so it makes a strong joint. |

When not in use
the theatre can be folded flat for storage in a zig zag fashion as shown
in the diagram. If duvet covers have been used to cover the
theatre these can be left in place. This makes it a very fast set
up and take down for your puppet show with this theatre.
Using duvet covers also has the advantage that you get a double layer of material between the puppeteers and you also get a neater appearance to the theatre. If sheets are used as the covering they will need to be folded and stored separately. |
