The Billet Doux Utility Cone by Peter Gardner This amazing paper fold produces a paper cone which can be utilised in a variety of magical effects.
Take a sheet of A4 paper or card stock and fold it in half top to bottom along the line AB. Fold the corner C over so that the edge AC runs along the centre line AB, as though you were folding a paper dart. Fold the corner E over so that the edge EB runs along the centre line AB. Run your fingers down both the folded edges to make the creases tight. Fold the corner D over so that the edge DB runs along the centre line AB. Fold the corner F over so that the edge FA runs along the centre line AB. Run your fingers down both the folded edges to make the creases tight. To complete the utility cone, fold the two halves together along the centre line AB keeping the Corners D and F on the inside. As they are being folded together, tuck the corner flap D behind corner flap F and ease the two halves together until the cone is a neat triangle shape. It will be seen that the completed cone has two pockets which both look identical. When held open as shown in the diagram, only one pocket is visible and the audience are not aware of the other pocket. The utility cone can be used to produce or vanish small objects. It can also be used to change or switch one item into another. For example you could place a £50 note into one pocket, close the pocket and open the other pocket. Place a £5 note into the empty pocket then blow on the cone as you transfer it to the other hand. In changing hands you automatically switch the pockets and change it to a £50. This could demonstrate how your money can grow in the bank. Using A3 sized paper or card will give you a much larger cone. |
