Bible Clippo by Rich Herrington One of my favourite routines is the cut and restored paper where you prepare the page with rubber cement, Copydex or fix-o-gum (Clippo). Originally I used actual Bible pages found in the old dusty attic at church. Pages of old Bibles were loose and falling out of unused Bibles. I now use photocopied pages! “You know, God’s Word remains the same yesterday, today and forever. I’d like to show you.” I flip though and ‘tear’ out my gimmicked page. After folding it in half I tell the audience, “The devil wants to cut the Word of God right out of your life.” I take out the scissors and proceed to snip a small straight piece just above the fold. As I fold open the page which remains stuck together from the rubber cement being pinched together I patter, “But God’s Word always remains the same and together yesterday, today and forever.” I usually add bits about the devil wanting parents, friendships, and churches to split up. But God remains faithful. I have always received great response. Except for the time when I did it during a prayer time with my Pastor and elders. When I did the first cut, you could feel the air leave the room as everyone gasped! The only other ‘bad’ reaction was three months after I did the trick for some children in a rural outreach a young girl came up to me and said, “I tried that with our family Bible and it didn’t work!” Oops. I now use a photocopied page and have a child come up and read aloud a passage or two. “Now can you certify to everyone here that this appears to be the authentic Word of God.” |
