The following guidelines are intended to be used during the FCMUK annual conference and any local FCMUK meetings. When working with under 18s (Children) please bear in mind the following ‘good practice’ guidelines: |
|
| * | Treat all children and young people with respect and dignity befitting their age. |
| * | Keep everything public. |
| * | Never be alone with a child. |
| * | Touch should be related to the child or young person’s needs, not the needs of the adult. |
| * | Touch should be age-appropriate and generally initiated by the child, rather than the adult. |
| * | Be aware of your language, tone of voice and where you put your body in relation to the child. |
| * | Do not make sexually suggestive comments about or to a young person or child. |
| * | Do not engage in inappropriate or intrusive touching of any form. |
| * | Do not invite children or young people into your accommodation. |
| * | Do not scapegoat, ridicule or reject a child or young person. |
| * | Use positive appraisal. |
| * | All concerns should be reported to FCMUK welfare officer immediately. |
| Lost and distressed children, if you encounter a child who is lost or distressed during the FCMUK Conference or events. |
|
* |
Approach the child and ask if you can help. |
| * | Avoid touching or hugging them – but if you feel it appropriate for them to hold your hand, ask their permission first. |
| * | Always stay in a public place. |
| * | Reassure the child that you are going to help. |
| * | Ask their name and any other details necessary. |
| * | Do not leave the child alone. |
| * | Take the child to the Centre Manager. |
| * | Report incident to Welfare officer. |
